You will find backpack rain covers in six sizes, from small day packs to large trekking packs, compact automatic travel umbrellas and oversized umbrellas for two, bug head nets in fine mesh that slip over a hat, and cooling towels for the neck that feel refreshingly cool after a quick wet and wring on hot summer trails.

None of these weigh much or take up space, which is exactly the point: a rain cover and a head net live at the bottom of the pack until the day you are very glad you brought them.
